Supporting arts and culture on the island of Puerto Rico

The Lost Coast Colony is an application based annual artist residency located along the

northwest coast of Puerto Rico. Just beyond the town of Quebradillas, our property rests within

a nature reserve of mountains, jungle, and ocean views. Selected artists visit for two weeks

each year to work, residing in our well-appointed apartments. We provide climate-controlled

environment within our gallery for artists to work. We supply accommodations, ground transport

on the island, all meals, and art supplies. The residency closes with a gallery opening to

celebrate the artists’ work while visiting Puerto Rico.

ARTIST EXPECTATIONS

Upon arrival, artists are given time to settle in and relax before organizing, gathering supplies, and choosing their workspace.  Artists are free to work anywhere on the property and will be helped to set up their location.  Artists are each given the following stretched canvas for working.  (2) 16" x16", (2) 26" x26", (2) 36" x42".  We will ask for a list of paints and other materials prior to your arrival, ready for you when you arrive.  We ask artists to bring their tools, brushes, knives, etc.  We provide a  climate-controlled studio space equipped with easels and work tables for artists to work.  Artists will be able to work by day or night.  This communal style retreat requires everyone to help with chores such as kitchen detail/cleanup from time to time.  Artists are required to gather for dinner each night where a meal will be prepared for everyone.  Artists will participate in the annual exhibition open to the public, showing their completed works, in downtown Quebradillas.  Works will be on display for 1-2 months after the opening. Upon closing of the annual show, work may be shipped back to the artist at their cost or placed on consignment in public places.  Artists are encouraged to visit public schools for presentations as an extension of our community outreach programs.  This small community, Quebradillas, is the perfect place to relax, focus, and find inspiration among  local flora and fauna, color and light.  Our residents are always excited to see visitors walking the streets and happy to meet and share local culture.
